Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

The largest hand cut stone building in North America, Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, formerly known as the Weston State Hospital, this West Virginia facility served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill during mid-1800. The history of the building holds fascinating stories of Civil War raids, a gold robbery, the "curative" effects of architecture, and the efforts of determined individuals to help better the lives of the mentally ill. Deerfield Country Club

Deerfield is an exciting 9 hole regulation course located at the Deerfield Country Club facility in Weston, WV. From the longest tees it presents 3,405 yards of golf for a par of 36. The course was designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, ASGCA/Jack Kidwell and opened in 1978. The course rating is 36.5 with a slope rating of 120. Memberships are available as well as daily fees at this stunning golf course. Course is open year round and has a driving range. Please call for available tee times and pricing. WVU Jackson's Mill

WVU Jackson's Mill is a unique West Virginia tradition: A large, working, well maintained developed campground facility in a picturesque rural setting. When not serving as home to West Virginia 4-H, WVU Jackson's Mill is available for group rental by private and public groups. The facilities make for an excellent conference location with amenities such as; numerous conference rooms, large Assembly Hall, on-site dining, ADA accessible facilities, campus wide wifi, seasonal swimming pool, athletic fields, as well as private, semi-private and cabin style room options. WVU Jackson's Mill provides numerous heritage and cultural educational opportunities. Demonstrations can include gristmilling, weaving, spinning, basket making, candle dipping, wood working, blacksmithing, paper marbling and other heritage arts that were a part of frontier life. These activities are set against a historic backdrop that features the Old Mill, the only original structure remaining from the original Jackson settlement, as well as other authentic 18th and 19th century buildings. Museum of American Glass

Visit the Museum of American Glass to see a vast collection of brilliant colored and sparkling crystal glass by dozens of American manufacturers from 1860 to the present. The museum has a special focus on the period from 1900 to 1960 when American handmade glass presented an almost endless variety of patterns, colors and forms. The museum offers an extensive research library and displays over 11,000 objects on display.

Central West Virginia's Genealogical & Historical Library and Museum

Organized in 1982, the Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants are dedicated to the preservation of the rich history and genealogy of central West Virginia. This library, located in a park like setting, is home to an abundant variety of books, maps, and photo and manuscript collections to assist the family researcher and local historian.
