From the Desk of Weston's Code Enforcement Officer, Marty Lewis

in News

I wanted to post about things going on in the City of Weston that many residents may not know about, but should.
  1. The WLRA was created to determine the disposition of properties either already owned or that will be owned soon by the City of Weston. The LRA would love to entertain proposals from individuals, companies, developers, and non-profits to redevelop vacant lots throughout the city.
  2. Reminder that it is a violation of City Code 4-26 to feed feral and stray cats. The truth is that you are actually doing the cats more harm in the long run, as overpopulation can lead to several terrible feline diseases and destruction of personal property
  3. City property owners are reminded that grass is to be mowed and maintained under 6" per International Property Maintenance Code 302.4
  4. Per City Code 77-4 trash and rubbish is to be stored in approved trash containers with secure lids. Trash may be set out after 6:00 pm the night before scheduled trash pick up and the cans are to be moved and stored away from the street by 6:00 the evening of trash pick up.
  5. The Weston City Council is looking for a candidate to assume the rest of the current term for Ward 4. Candidate must live in Ward 4.
  6. The City of Weston is currently taking applications for the following positions;
    • Police Officers
    • Finance Manager
    • City Attorney
  7. The street department continues to install new aluminum fencing along the entry corridors into town to improve the aesthetics of the areas
  8. The vulture program has been in place for a year now. More than 300 vultures have been trapped and euthanized by the USDA. The USDA has administered the program since the vultures are a migratory and protected species. It is illegal for individuals to kill the vultures.
  9. Demolitions are continuing throughout the city. This current round will have 11 structures by the city and 1 by a private individual. When this round is over the City of Weston will have demolished 72 dilapidated structures in the city limits. We hope it is making a huge difference in the appearance and safety of our town. When demos occur, you can expect short delays as equipment is moved and trucks are loaded with debris.
  10. The street department will be paving Arnold Street immediately after the demolitions on that street are completed.
  11. The street department continues to work on winter equipment such as snow plows and salt spreaders to prepare for winter weather.
  12. The street department is also working on Christmas lighting to make sure the decorations are all functional and up for the Christmas Parade the day after Thanksgiving.
  13. The Code Enforcement and street departments have been working with Mon Power and Citizens' Bank on an extended project to remove the wooden power poles from Main Ave between 1st and 2nd streets. The project includes relocating power to downtown buildings to the streets behind those buildings, new services for Christmas Lighting in the future, and new decorative street lights for both sides of Main Ave.
  14. The Weston City Council's regular sessions are scheduled for the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Lewis County courthouse on the second floor. The public is encouraged to attend and is welcome to speak. I know this is a long post, but I felt these were some important items to relay to the public.
